Homeowner Tips from Comfort Systems

SUMMER

  • To remove excess heat & humidity use exhaust fans when cooking.
  • Close registers in rooms that are not being used. To avoid damage to your central heating system, close no more than one fourth of the area of your home.
  • Close any air gaps by caulking and put weather-stripping on all windows.
  • When your fireplace is not in use, keep flue closed.
  • Change the filter on forced air units monthly.

WINTER

  • When your fireplace is not in use, keep flue closed.
  • Fix problem draft areas by caulking or applying weather-stripping.
  • Change the filter on forced air units.

GARBAGE DISPOSAL

  • To clean the disposal, push ice cubes through it while running cold water.
  • To prevent stoppages run water during use and for at least two minutes after you finish. If the garbage disposal is leaking, check the sink and drain connections.

DISHWASHER

  • To eliminate mineral deposits run cycle with no dishes & 1 cup of vinegar.

WATER HEATER

  • If the water heater is too hot or not hot enough, make sure the thermostat is set correctly. Another way to keep the water temperature constant is to use a water heater blanket.

GAS RANGE

  • IMPORTANT!! If you smell gas around your oven, do not stay in the house. Turn the gas off, open a window and notify the gas company immediately.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

  • Check the breakers on your electrical panel if any lights or outlets don't work.

AIR CONDITIONING

  • Have your air conditioning system maintenance performed by a licensed HVAC company to insure your system will perform more energy efficiently before the cooling system begins.
  • Keep the condensing unit free of debris.
  • During the hot summer season, replace filters monthly.

HEATING SYSTEM

  • Have your heating system cleaned and checked by a licensed HVAC company every fall to insure top performance and fuel efficiency for the winter.
  • Set your thermostat to 69° F or less during the day, 60° F or less at night. (Or when you leave your home for more than four hours).
  • Close doors and/or vents to room(s) that you are not using. To avoid damage to your central heating system, close no more than one fourth of the area of your home.
  • Take advantage of solar power. On sunny mornings, open your drapes on the eastern and southern windows or your home. In the afternoon, open your drapes for your western windows to get the most exposure to the sun.

And if thats not enough, take a look at what our customers have had to say...
